Moving with small children is difficult and stressful for everyone involved, but moving with pets can be tricky too. Your pet doesn't realize what's happening, and may panic when he or she sees you packing things into boxes all week long. But unlike a reasonably intelligent toddler, you can't comfort your dog by letting them know you're going to a new house or explaining that you'll see your belongings again later. Use these four tips to help the move go smoothly and to make allowances for your pet's nervousness.
1. Call ahead to find pet services
Just like you transfer your cable and find a new doctor in your new community, you'll need to find a new vet, a new boarding kennel, and a new pet store. Researching these ahead of time will save time later and prevent any time crunches as well as ensuring that you know where to take your dog in an emergency.
2. Take your dog to doggy daycare
If you normally take your dog to daycare while you're at work, you can simply allow him or her to have a normal day by doing the same while your house is being packed up by movers. Sure, technically you'll be home so your pet could be too, but if your pet is high-strung, leaving him or her at daycare until it's time to actually leave town could be for the best.
3. Introduce your pet to the new house carefully
Your dog may smell other dogs in the new house if the previous owners had pets. You can't really explain to him that it's okay because those other dogs aren't coming back and this house belongs to you now. But you can allow your pet to explore the new house slowly and take plenty of time looking around to get a better idea of the surroundings and make extra-sure that there are no threats.
4. Keep routines
In addition to taking your dog to daycare as usual, try to keep mealtimes and walk times normal throughout the days leading up to the move. Dogs, like children, rely on routine, and messing up their schedule can make them more nervous and anxious.
These tips will help you to keep your dog in the loop as much as possible and allow him or her to get used to the move while also not making things any more difficult for yourself or your dog than necessary. For more information, contact a business such as Modern Movers, Inc.

There are all kinds of reasons to use storage units, but renting one for your next move is absolutely vital for your sanity and your organization. I didn't used to use a storage unit, but about six months ago, I realized that there were some serious problems with the clutter in my home. I started going through and finding things that I didn't need to use right away, and it was amazing to me to see just how much clutter I was hanging onto. Check out this blog for more information about using your storage unit to the best of your ability and knowing how to utilize storage during a relocation.
